Facts and figures - the daily life of UHSM

In 2010 we did 33 transplants: 12 hearts, 21 lungs and 5 VADs (ventricular assist devices)
The UHSM switchboard receives around 6,000 calls every 24 hours - that is 2.2 million a year
The UHSM sterile sevices department cleans over 180,000 instruments each year








We treat around 442,000 patients each year through inpatients, A&E and outpatients
530 people volunteer for UHSM helping patients with anything from directions to reading
Some of our specialist departments serve a region-wide population of 3.2 million








At Wythenshawe Hospital, there are approximately 950 beds available for patients
We serve an immediate population of 570,000 in the Greater Manchester area
