We deliver a cutting-edge system of education.
In March 2009, UHSM announced that it will create an Academy, which will take overall responsibility for the delivery of educational activity within the trust.
The Academy, under the direction of a steering group of expert multi-professional educators, will deliver an entirely new governance system for education.
The new academy will provide:
“For many years, UHSM has had a reputation for creating high quality environments for learning but changes in the delivery of healthcare and the development of the global community have generated new challenges for health education.
- inter-professional learning to improve team building activities to enhance patient safety
- A trust wide strategy for simulated learning including a new state-of-the-art simulation centre, a mobile clinical skills bus, a trust-wide communications learning strategy and a faculty specialising in simulated education.
- A new relationship with our local community, which will deliver novel learning opportunities based on the whole patient journey.
- A structured programme of learning in the Global Community by facilitating trust employees to participate in sustainable healthcare delivery in sub-Saharan developing economies.
- Improved usage of UHSM educational estates including a universal booking system, the installation of HD recording and viewing systems in lecture theatres and a major enhancement of multi-professional e-learning facilities.
- A new system of educational governance, which will allow good teachers to be accredited and recognised for their contributions. These exciting developments, which will progress in 2009-10, should make UHSM a beacon for healthcare education within the NHS.
