Advanced Practitioners
Advanced Practitioners (AP) are registered and accredited healthcare professionals who combine years of specialized experience with academic training to bring the highest level of care and service to patients. An AP can work alongside consultant physicians and/or surgeons autonomously whilst providing a unique, evidenced-based, and holistic approach to their care. Each practitioner has attained a minimum of a Masters of Science (MSc.) or equivalent degree in their area of interest in addition to their years of clinical experience. This allows the AP to be uniquely qualified for their role.
Advanced Practitioners function within UHSM at every point of patient contact. They work within frontline services such as A+E and Medical Admissions (MAU). AP’s also provide care on speciality wards within the trust including Acute Medicine, Gastroenterology, Paediatrics, and Endocrinology. They are also integral to delivering outpatient, practitioner-led services in areas such as Cardiology and Rheumatology medicine.
Working within the “One Talented Team” of UHSM, Advanced Practitioners function to serve the community of South Manchester. The Advanced Practitioner Working Group is a forum of independent/ multidisciplinary AP’s who collaborate with The Academy at UHSM. The AP Working Group works to advocate, advise, and promote advanced practice within the trust. The group is currently chaired by Sharon Christy-Kilner MSc. AP.
