Hospital Radio
A great hospital should be at the heart of its local community, addressing the needs and challenges of the people that live there. For this reason, we are delighted to have a unique link with our community radio station, Wythenshawe FM.
WFM act as our hospital radio station, enabling us to broadcast our news and advice across the entire local area. WFM is a not-for-profit station for South Manchester, broadcasting primarily to Baguley, Benchill, Peel Hall, Newall Green, Woodhouse Park, Moss Nook, Sharston, Northern Moor and Northenden. However, people also tune in from across South Manchester and North Cheshire on 97.2 FM, and all over the world online. It was one of the first radio stations of its kind in the UK, gaining a full-time licence in 2005, and is run by dedicated volunteers from across Manchester.
Hospital Heartbeat is our weekly show on WFM, presented by Mike George and Laura Parker and assisted by roving reporter Ray Degg. The programme features clinical experts, nurses, doctors, specialists, admin staff, governors, Trust members, volunteers and partner staff, all talking about a variety of subjects such as health issues, awareness days/months, latest research, events, recruitment and much more. Recent topics include the Ticker Club, the Stop Smoking Service and Privacy & Dignity developments.
Hospital Heartbeat also serves as a request programme for UHSM patients. The Hospedia units (previously Patientline) in our wards have free WFM streams, and song choices can be sent to the studio by phone (0161 499 0222), text message (07913 22 79 66), or email (studio@wfmradio.org).
If you would like to listen to Hospital Heartbeat, tune in to 97.2FM or listen online every Thursday at 2 - 3pm, or listen to the repeat show on Tuesdays at midnight.
