CPA and underlying diseases
Most patients with CPA have an underlying lung disease. The most common underlying diseases include:
- Pulmonary tuberculosis
- Atypical mycobacterial pulmonary infection
- Stage III fibrocystic pulmonary sarcoidosis
- Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA)
- A history of pneumothorax
- A history of successfully treated lung cancer
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and emphysema
- Less common underlying diseases include asthma, prior severe pneumonia, histoplasmosis, pulmonary cysts, ankylosing spondylitis, bronchiectasis, rheumatoid pulmonary nodules, and silicosis.
