“There is a lack of help for those affected by cancer and so we wanted to provide something that would both support people and help them to take better control of their emotional, personal and physical difficulties."

Macmillan launches course to help those affected by cancer

The Macmillan Information and Support Centre at UHSM is offering the public a chance to participate in a unique free course that is designed to help those who have been affected by cancer.

Every two minutes someone is diagnosed with cancer in the UK, and this can affect a person both physically and mentally. In order to help those affected by cancer Macmillan, in conjunction with UHSM, have developed a short course aimed at people who are trying to move on after their cancer treatment is complete but are still struggling.

The HOPE course will assist people who, due to cancer being in their lives, are struggling with stress, anxiety, anger or concerns. The course will them recognise their own potential to enhance their quality of life and happiness and will provide a forum for people to share their experiences, feel less isolated and be supported by others in a similar situation.

The HOPE course starts on 19th September, and will take place every Monday for seven weeks from 1pm -3:30pm in the Education and Research Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital.

If you would like to join this course or request further information please contact debbie.smith2@uhsm.nhs.uk.
