UHSM Staff Awards 2010

UHSM's annual Staff Awards have taken place at the Whitworth Hall in Manchester. Over 300 guests attended the ceremony to receive awards or to support colleagues who had been shortlisted. Winners were named in 14 different categories and the Chief Executive Julian Hartley, singled out members of staff who have demonstrated attributes of The South Manchester Way

Below is a list of all award winners, those who were highly commended and those who were mentioned as part of The South Manchester Way. More in-depth stories from the Awards will follow soon.


  

1.  Team of the Year

Clinical or non-clinical team demonstrating outstanding team working skills to deliver an efficient and high performing service

WINNER: ACUTE MEDICAL UNIT (WARDS A8 AND A10)

Highly Commended: Breast Cancer Services Team, including Rachel Green, Stephanie Gilbert, Yvonne Loughley, Susan Green, Miriam Griffiths and Louise Harrop

Highly Commended: Emergency Nurse Practitioners, including Val Beaumont, Evelyn Simpson, Mary Keenan and Sue Houghton


2.  Making a Difference

A project or initiative which has significantly improved the patient’s experience and journey within the Trust

WINNER: BIRTH CENTRE TEAM

Highly Commended: Christine Harris, Senior medical Secretary, Respiratory Medicine

Highly Commended: Karen Sheen, Cancer Pathway Co-ordinator


3.  Leading and Inspiring Others

A member of staff who consistently demonstrates good leadership and people-management skills

WINNER: ANDREW SMITH, HEAD OF PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE, NURSING

Highly Commended: Graham Gledhill, Matron

Highly Commended: Dr Paul Taylor, Consultant Oncologist


4.  Trust Educator of the Year

A member of staff who is committed to encouraging learning and development of colleagues and team members

WINNER: BHUVANESWARI BIBLERAAJ, LEAD SURGICAL CARE PRACTITIONER

Highly Commended: Certificate in Professional Studies (Burns Care) team

Highly Commended: Karen Moore, Practice Educator, Division of Medicine


5.  The Big Idea

A good idea or new practice which has resulted in significant service improvement in terms of performance and efficiency

WINNER: INFECTION PREVENTION: IT’S EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY CAMPAIGN - ALL STAFF

Highly Commended: IT Development Team / Emergency Department (Whiteboard project)


6.  Clinical Excellence

Demonstration of outstanding clinical skills and expertise from medical, nursing, or allied health professionals

WINNER: MICHAEL CULLEN, CARDIOLOGY SPECIALIST NURSE PRACTITIONER

Highly Commended: Acute Coronary Care Unit

Highly Commended: Team for nurse-led Cardioversion, including Simon Jesson, Christine Gill, David Green and April Hopkins


7.  Outstanding Partner

An employee or team from our private partner teams who have gone the extra mile to deliver excellent service

WINNER: FRANK TOOTH, DOMESTIC OPERATIVE, SODEXO

Highly Commended: Jean Hamilton, Domestic Operative, Sodexo

Highly Commended: Neville Griffin, Engineer, Atkins


8.  Clean, Safe Care

Recognising an individual or team’s outstanding contribution to improvements in Infection Prevention and Control

WINNER: HOUSEKEEPERS, DIVISION OF HEART & LUNG, including Stephanie Woodsworth, Jayne Gooding, Nicola Green, Carol Toner, Steven Keen, Helen Lamonby, Jackie Whalley, Susan Whitton and Elaine Cookson

Highly Commended: AICU Nursing staff


9.  Individual Volunteer of the Year

Recognising the dedicated work of a volunteer member of staff or team

10.  Volunteer Team of the Year

Recognising the dedicated work of a volunteer team

WINNER: ACTIVE THERAPY TEAM

Highly Commended: Nightingale Community Led Research Group, including Chris Stead, Sheila Nowak, Cathy Jones and Eileen Tupling

Highly Commended: Ticker Club Ward and Clinic Visitor Team


11.     Employee of the Year

Shortlisted from winners of Employee of the Quarter 2009

WINNER: TINA FOLEY, CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST

Highly Commended: Debbie Cope, Senior Healthcare Assistant

Highly Commended: Safeguarding Children Team, including Anna Berry and Rebecca Jones


12.     Researcher / Research Project of the Year

WINNER: PROFESSOR NIGEL BUNDRED AND THE BREAST CANCER RESEARCH TEAM

13.     Community Engagement / Outreach
