UHSM breaks record at UK's largest baby shower
“I had such a wonderful time. It was so nice to relax and to learn a bit more about the hospital where I am due to give birth. I really loved being able to meet other pregnant women too as it’s always nice to speak to people who are going through the same thing as you and we’re all just so excited. We all had a fantastic time!”

Expectant mum
To mark the half-way point in the redevelopment of UHSM's Maternity Centre, we have thrown the UK’s largest ever ‘Baby Shower’.
Around 80 mums-to-be joined staff at the beautiful Davenport Green Hall to hear talks from our midwives on natural births and water births, advice from a physiotherapist on keeping fit during pregnancy and postnatal exercise, as well as enjoying lunch, massages, manicures, a chocolate fountain and games and each received a goody bag.
Helen Thompson, Head of Midwifery at UHSM says: “Our Baby Shower was a staggering success and a lot of fun. It enabled us to put the spotlight on our pregnant ladies and give them the opportunity to be pampered for a day. We talked to them about important issues such as birth options, breast feeding, and the redevelopment of the Centre and its new facilities."
"We had some mums-to-be join us who are due to deliver any day now right through to the end of the year and the occasion provided them with a chance to meet other expectant Mums, share stories and experiences and relax for the day.”
UHSM is in the process of creating a new Maternity ‘supercentre’ at Wythenshawe Hospital which started last year and will be complete in 2011. Already, there are new water birth rooms available, a new triage unit and a new postnatal ward.
The Baby Shower will qualify for a new category in the Guinness Book of Records as Britain’s largest ever gathering of pregnant women.
