The department of Anaesthesia is the largest clinical department in the Trust. We have 56 Consultants and about 35 trainees, along with other permanaent clinical members of staff.

We provide a wide range of services to the patients of the Trust. The Royal College of Anaesthetists estimates that over 75% of hospital admissions involve contact with an Anaesthetist in one of these roles.

Our roles include:

Cardiac & Thoracic Anaesthesia & Critical Care
Acute and Chronic Pain Services
Maternity and Paediatric Anaesthesia
Pre-operative assessment and optimisation prior to surgery

We have a large number of trainees both in Anaesthesia and Critical Care. We also train junior doctors from other base specialities who rotate to us.
