Breast Prosthetic Service

"We always ensure the patients’ wishes are given the highest priority when selecting the prosthesis and we aim to create an environment where the patient can regain her self-confidence with regards to her body image."

The Breast Prosthetic Service provides post-operative care to patients who have undergone breast surgery.  This includes reconstruction and asymmetry due to congenital disorders and continual support and reassessment of need once the prostheses have been supplied.

The Breast Prosthetic Adviser can assess patients and provide specific advice about wearing a prosthesis and guidance on correctly fitting bras.

The Breast Prosthetic Service covers clinical directorates at South Manchester Hospitals, local GPs/PCT, Christie Hospital, Central Manchester Hospital and Trafford General.

Referrals

We accept referrals from Consultants and Nurse Specialists – an Orthotic referral form should be completed requesting a Breast Prosthetic assessment with diagnosis and any relevant medical history.

We accept direct referrals from local GPs/PCT – a letter requesting a Breast Prosthetic assessment should be completed with any relevant medical history. Referrals should be sent direct to the Orthotic Deptartment.
