Macmillan Cancer Information & Support Centre
Are you moving on from cancer? If so, please complete this short survey.
The Macmillan service offers a very warm, friendly, safe environment to talk through concerns and issues and the time to listen. We help with the everyday life problems that having a cancer diagnosis can introduce. We have a quiet room and everything divulged in the centre is in the strictest confidence and we do not keep records unless it is needed, then they are kept under lock and key and we follow the Hospital policies on confidential data and record keeping.
We have up to date accurate information on all aspects of cancer, both in written form and DVD’s, CD’s, different languages, help for people with learning disabilities, in Braille etc. We provide information across three sites - the Macmillan centre itself at Wythenshawe Hospital, the information pod at Withington Hospital and the information stand at the Cecilia unit.
We support people with internet access and finding information from reputable sites. We help people work through ‘information prescriptions’ (a special NHS information site) and tailor the information to their specific needs through this NHS site. We have information and access to local help and support and can direct people to specific areas for further support e.g. CALL and Neil Cliffe. We support people through using the Macmillan benefits on-line tool to support people through the benefits system.
Most important, we have a very warm, friendly safe environment to talk through concerns and issues and the service is there for patients/relatives and friends. We try to help with all aspects of cancer, treatments and living with cancer and if cancer returns.
