Medical Illustration
In the Medical Illustration department, we have three main functions – clinical (patient) recording, producing teaching materials and audio visual presentation.
Clinical recording is done using both film and digital photography. The photographs can be taken in the departmental photographic studio or on the wards or clinics and in the operating theatres and the images are used for the patients' hospital notes. The photographs record the patient's condition prior to any treatment and also shows the condition during treatment. With consent from the patient, they can also be used for teaching and publication. The department provides a 24 hour cover for recording emergencies outside the normal working day.
Teaching materials are produced by our graphic section. These can be full colour paintings of operative procedures, anatomical subjects etc, or digitally produced graphics to be used either during formal lectures or for journals and textbooks. We design and produce poster displays and information packages for patients. We also have a digital video production unit that makes videos both for teaching techniques and procedures and can also used for clinical recording of various conditions.
The Audio Visual section is responsible for all the lecture theatres and seminar rooms. We have a range of equipment available including overhead projectors, slide projectors and data projectors. We also offer tele-conferencing for distance teaching and can be booked by any department.
