Paediatrics (Ward F8 - Starlight)

We are committed to delivering high quality, measurable care for children and young people aged from 0-18, and are proud to have received an ‘excellent’ rating from the Healthcare Commission. We involve all our young patients in what we do, with children’s questionnaires and the youth forum giving us invaluable feedback.

Our Day Case Patients and Ward Attenders, who are in hospital for minor procedures, are cared for in a separate area with their own nursing staff – this means that we can provide the optimum care and are not kept waiting due to unforeseen emergencies.

Our Consultants have varying interests including Epilepsy, Diabetes, HDU Care, Child Protection, Cystic Fibrosis, Allergies, Neonatology, and Cardiology. We also have a Specialist Child Protection Nurse.

Our surgical specialities are ENT, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Maxillofacial as well as Paediatric Medicine and Child Psychiatry. We also deliver high dependency care, compliant with recommendations for the safe stabilisation and transfer of a patient requiring paediatric intensive care treatment.

The sensory room is used to calm and relax children with severe phobias. The room has a multi-coloured LED lighting system, fibre-optic lights and a floor to wall bubble tube.
