"We are really delighted that 50% of our patients rate the care they receive here as ‘excellent’ and a further 45% consider it ‘very good’ or ‘good’. However, the work doesn’t stop here and there is still plenty more to do."
"We will be concentrating our efforts on those areas where our ranking is average or below, especially the use of mixed-sex bathrooms and giving patients copies of letters sent to GPs. Each of our clinical divisions has drawn up an action plan to detail exactly what we need to do to improve our scores and to help us achieve our goal of being the best acute trust in England."

Patient Surveys
UHSM is ranked 6th acute hospital in the NHS in England on performance indicator rank (3rd on raw scores), and highest in the Northwest in the 2007 HCC Inpatient survey. The 2008 report is currently being analysed by the Health Care Commission and will be available in the near future.
2009 Inpatient Survey Results
The 2009 survey 498 inpatients completed the survey at UHSM during the snapshot period last year. The questions are grouped under the following headings:
- admission to hospital
- the hospital and ward
- doctors
- nurses
- your care and treatment
- operations and procedures
- leaving hospital
- overall
Areas where UHSM performed well included: doctors, nurses and your care and treatment. Areas with lower scores included: admissions and discharges and being offered a choice of hospital. This is another good set of results particularly for a Trust based in a large city with a good above average scores in all areas.
