Surgery (General)
The General Surgical Department provides a full range of elective and emergency services for patients with benign and malignant conditions of the upper and gastrointestinal tract. Wythenshawe Hospital has excellent ICU and HDU facilities which are mandatory to support patients undergoing major surgery. The Surgeons work closely with a team of 5 Gastroenterologists, dedicated Gastrointestinal Radiologists and Pathologists to deliver this comprehensive service. Patients also benefit from the wide range of on-site Medical Specialties (cardiology, respiratory medicine and endocrinology) necessary for patients with multiple needs.
Specialities
Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery
Surgery typically treats Oesophagogastric diseases, both benign (Hiatus Hernia, Reflux Disease) and malignant.
Surgery is also undertaken to treat Gall Stone diseases.
Location – Ward A4 and Ward A6
Lower Gastrointestinal Surgery
Surgery is typically performed to treat Colorectal Diseases, both benign (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) and malignant.
General Surgical Conditions
Undertakes surgery on conditions such as skin lumps and Hernias (Abdominal and Groin).
