Rehabilitation - Day Hospital

Many patients, particularly the elderly, suffer with loss of function after a major physical illness, which can result in difficulty in coping in their usual environment. Often things improve spontaneously as the patient recovers from the illness, but sometimes this process can be slow or incomplete.

Rehabilitation offers the patient a chance to work with a multi-disciplinary team to achieve the maximum recovery from ill health, and minimal subsequent disability.

Rehabilitation services for patients who have a GP from the South Manchester PCT are broadly divided into the Inpatient Unit on Ward F7 and Community Services, which work from Buccleuch Lodge in Withington and The Peele in Wythenshawe. The community team (also called our Intermediate Care Team) delivers rehabilitation therapy either in their inpatient units at Buccleugh Lodge, at the Peele Residential Home, or in the patient's own home.

Patient with GPs from another PCTs have access to different services, depending on their local facilities. Some out of area patients can be treated on Ward F7, but the decision needs to be taken on an individual basis

The Day Hospital provides a service for those with multi-disciplinary needs which can be met in the outpatient setting. This includes the falls clinic, and a Parkinson’s Disease clinic.

Inpatient Services at Wythenshawe (Ward F7)

There are 24 beds on Ward F7 to cater for the inpatient rehabilitation needs for the whole hospital.
