Dr Darren Ashcroft has been announced as the winner of the 2009 Practice Research Award, which is sponsored by the Pharmacy Practice Research Trust. The award was presented at the British Pharmaceutical Conference on Monday 7 September, where Dr Ashcroft delivered a lecture on his prize-winning research.
The BPC Practice Research Award is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the field of pharmacy practice research and has the potential to become a leader in their field.
Dr Ashcroft is Reader in Medicines Usage and Safety at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, based at the University of Manchester, and as part of his honorary contract with UHSM, he works closely with the Pharmacy team. He received the award in recognition of his work into medicines usage, and in particular quality and safety.
Dr Ashcroft said: “I have been undertaking a programme of research in this area over the last 10 years or so. Drug-related morbidity represents a substantial burden on limited health care resources and my early research, which focused on quality and safety in pharmacy practice, has matured into a major research theme.”
He received a cheque for £1,000.
