staff and students

Whether you are a medical professional, a non-medical NHS employee, or a student preparing for a future in the health sector, UHSM Academy can support you to reach your learning goals and develop your career.

As a major teaching hospital, education and training are at the heart of everything we do at UHSM. The Academy embraces all the education and training activities we deliver under one umbrella. The result is a centre of excellence offering health-related learning opportunities to our staff, undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, in addition to health professionals regionally, nationally and internationally.

The programmes and facilities we offer are broad-ranging, catering for the diverse learning requirements of our staff, students, and the wider health community. We are an inspirational, leading organisation in the UK, drawing together every aspect of health education – from specialised consultant training to leadership courses to basic fire safety awareness sessions. This makes UHSM Academy a one-stop-shop for nationally recognised, health sector training courses. Our state-of-the art training facilities are also a popular choice for external organisations to hire.

Our vision extends globally.  The Academy has strong links with health related  training institutions in Northern Uganda, such as Gulu University Faculty of Medicine and its associated hospital, the Regional Referral Hospital. For further information please see the Global health page below.

Part of our richness and vitality comes from the growing range of additional services that come under our remit. As well as training a substantial number of doctors and nurses, we also provide placements in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutritional dietetics, and speech and language therapy.
