As a major teaching hospital, training and supporting the future NHS workforce is a key priority. The Postgraduate Medical Education Departments provide education and placements for training grade doctors, supporting them to gain practical experience as part of their medical training.

Postgraduate Medical Education Department

The Postgraduate Medical Education department (PGME) oversees the quality and delivery of education and training for Doctors & Dentists in Training, Locally Employed Doctors and medical associate roles.

Our priority is to ensure that all doctors and dentists are confident in providing high quality, safe patient care, supported by excellent trainers and educators. MFT provides medical education and training opportunities across most of the 65 specialties and 31 sub-specialties, with doctors at all levels from foundation up to post CTT completing training placements at the Trust.

The department provides a group level function supporting all 10 hospitals within the MFT footprint ensuring that education is delivered in line with the GMC Promoting Excellence: standards for medical education and training.
