UHSM continually seeks to improve the quality of care of our patients. We are entering a period of capital development at the Trust with the aim of providing the highest quality treatment, excellent services and real patient benefits. We also have a rolling capital plan that identifies the priorities for enhancement or re-provision of equipment and facilities.
Accident and Emergency (A&E)
We are building a new 12m state-of-the-art A&E which will upgrade current facilities to meet increased patient demand. This will provide additional major and minor injury facilities and two additional resuscitation bays, bringing the total to eight. We will be capable of seeing at least 120,000 attendees annually.
We are building two new, advanced hybrid theatres to boost UHSM’s Cardiac and Vascular Surgery services. Hybrid theatres provide all the conventional operating functionality of a theatre suite, with state-of-the-art imaging. The £5 million facility will allow us to expand capacity, while also transforming the care and treatment of patients undergoing minimally invasive procedures.
UHSM is at the heart of the regeneration of South Manchester through its role in one of Manchester’s health and life science parks that is linked to the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre. MediPark will combine research and development with integrated health and social care to create a world-class supported living community that will be enabled by cutting edge technology and innovation. The intention is to create around 3,000 jobs in the next 10 years based on technology to support integrated care and promote independence.
We are planning to redevelop the Wythenshawe Hospital Campus courtyard area in 2016/17. This will improve the facilities available for staff, patients, families and carers.
