Several services at University Hospital of South Manchester (UHSM) NHS Foundation Trust have been shortlisted for prestigious national healthcare awards, known as the 2017 HSJ (Health Service Journal) Awards.
Now in their 36th year, the sought-after accolades recognise, celebrate and promote the finest achievements in the NHS.
UHSM’s global education initiative, the Gulu Manchester Link, has been shortlisted in the International Health partnership category. The Trust has a long-standing healthcare education link with the Faculty of Medicine at Gulu University and the Regional Referral Hospital in Gulu, northern Uganda. This link gives health workers, students and academics at UHSM and both Ugandan institutions the opportunity to share skills and develop their learning through innovative ways.
The North West Severe Asthma Service (NWSAS), hosted by UHSM, has been shortlisted in the Specialised Services Redesign category. NWSAS is a Network of 9 NHS Hospital Trusts across the North West who are working together to provide high level specialised services for patients with Severe Asthma, ensuring that all patients in the North West have the same access to care regardless of postcode.
Finally, the Macmillan Cancer Improvement Partnership (MCIP) in Manchester, of which UHSM is a part of, has been shortlisted for two HSJ awards. The work of the partnership has been nominated for the category Acute, Community and/or Primary Care Services Redesign for its overall impact on cancer services’ redesign and in the Supported Self Care category for their work in creating a new improved model of after-care for breast cancer patients who have completed their initial treatment.

The shortlisted organisations will now complete presentations and interviews to a judging panel made up of senior and influential figures from the health sector and the winners of the HSJ Awards will be announced on 22 November 2017.
