Accident & Emergency (NMGH)

There is an Urgent treatment centre open 8am -2200 seeing all minor illness and injury staffed by GP’s and nurse practitioners

The main adult department sees all adult patients either as walk in or ambulance arrivals. Once arrived patients are located to various areas in the department or wider hospital (e.g. gynae assessment, ambulatory care, or surgical assessment unit) depending on their presentation. They will be seen and assessed by a range of clinicians and then either discharged home with appropriate follow up if required, or else referred in for admission under an in patient team.

The department currently sees around 110,000 patients a year, a quarter of which are children.
